About the Region
The Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta, declared a Biosphere Reserve and World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1979, is the highest mountain range in Colombia and the closest to the sea in the world, just 42km from the coast. In the Sierra, the coffee growers are mainly indigenous people from the Arhuaca, Wiwa and Kogui ethnic groups who tend the coffee with great care, using organic techniques that protect the environment.
